Mittens for Alex

I decided to knit some mittens for the kids this year - these are made using the Classic Mittens pattern on Ravelry, size 5-7. I started with Alex since his hands are so little - I can knit a mitten in his size in an hour or so! I don't really know how to pick up the thumb stitches so there isn't a gap, and I'm sure there is a way, but otherwise I think they turned out great!

Gingerbread house

Today is the 1st day of Thanksgiving break for the kids. They are off school for an entire week! The past week of school they were having trouble getting up in the morning, and I was too, so we were thrilled to have a break.  I have a feeling I'll be ready for them to be back in school before the week is over though. I have a few things planned to keep us all busy, so hopefully we will all survive.

I found a gingerbread kit at Trader Joe's last week, and it looked really cute so I couldn't resist. I've always wanted to make a gingerbread house with the kids.  One year I even went as far as making plans, finding a vegan gingerbread recipe, and buying the candy to decorate it. But that was as far as I got. The kits are not very original or creative, but they are easy!

The little candy people were the cutest part of the kit. Of course my kids ended up breaking the head off one and using it for a tree topper. They put a gummy head on the body so it would look like Yoda. The other one went on upside down because he is falling off the roof.  And yes, that is icing on Alex's face. Sprinkles are everywhere, but it was worth the mess.
