Velvet passed away two weeks ago. She was 13 years old and had terrible arthritis, so we're happy she's no longer in pain, but we miss her terribly. She was a huge part of our lives for so long, a member of our family really, so its really strange to come home and not see her waiting for us at the door. Andy got her for a present for my 21st birthday, and she was with us through it all - college, vacations, moving 3 times, kids.
I've been looking through all my photo albums and found the puppy pictures. We only have a few from those days - we were in college and didn't have a digital camera - did anyone in 2000? Velvet was so tiny when we got her, about the size of Andy's foot. She was pretty wild as a puppy. The neighbor kids called her "wild barky dog." It was a very fitting name!
She sort of slowed down over the years, mostly in the last couple due to her arthritis. Her very favorite thing(other than corn on the cob) was the snow - as soon as it snowed she wanted out to play. We had quite a bit of snow this past March, and even at 12 1/2 years old she wanted out to play in the snow. She would come back inside completely covered head to toe in snow, even if it barely covered the ground.
Velvet was a wonderful dog - we will miss her!
