Turning 8!!

Its hard to believe that in two days my twins will be 8 years old!  We celebrated their birthday today  with family. I made a Kirby cake for Drew and a Barbie cake for Faye. I could never begin to tell you how difficult it was to make the Barbie cake, but my mom and I were up until almost 2am trying to make it work.  I thought it would be really simple, but it turned out to be quite challenging.  In the end I think it turned out pretty well, although I don't know how it tasted (a little crunchy maybe?). I think they were both happy with their cakes though, so that is all that matters.

Of course I forgot to make sure my camera batteries were charged last night, so I didn't get any pictures of the kids blowing out candles or opening presents.  I was pretty bummed. I did take a few pictures of the cake last night, and the kids were willing to let me take some photos later in the evening.  They were on a little bit of a sugar high so they were quite silly:)  Thank you to everyone who came and made their birthday a great one!

First day of preschool

The first day of preschool went really well.  Alex was very excited and a little bit nervous, but his teachers said he did great!  When he got to school he went right in his classroom, washed his hands, gave me a kiss and sat on the rug and waved goodbye.  He doesn't eat lunch at school, but he insisted I pack him a lunch just like the big kids.

Volvo

Volvo hitched a ride in/under Grandma and Grandpa's Volvo the other day.  They are not sure where he was picked up, but it was either in Washington or Bloomington.  Isn't he the cutest kitten ever?! (We think the kitten is probably a he) He was a little nervous when we first got to Grandma and Grandpa's house and unexpectedly met him, but he soon adjusted to the kids and I think he loved all the attention he got from them. They made toys, had grandpa build stairs and a slide, and held him as much as he would let them.

Faye especially loved this kitten, and a few tears were shed when we had to leave, without the kitten. I love kittens, but I don't know if I love cats.  Plus we have Velvet, so I'm not sure we're ready for another pet.  Velvet was not sure what to think of this kitten, but she was very interested.  She walked around and smelled him, then walked by to smell him again, and the kitten scratched her.  She stayed back a little from then on - I think this tiny kitten scared her! Velvet is not great with people, but she loves animals, and I think she was a little upset the kitten didn't like her.

If anyone is looking to adopt a kitten, he is very very cute, very friendly, and needs a good home!  I think he could probably even adjust to being around dogs.

Fancy Shower Cap

As my hair gets longer, I don't really have the time to wash and dry it every morning.  My hair is really thick and takes forever to dry, so a fancy shower cap is just what I needed! I found a great tutorial for making your own fancy shower cap here.  I love her version with the lace, but I wanted to try out the pattern and make sure it works before I wasted money on lace.  It only took me about 45 minutes to make, and it was really inexpensive.  I did buy satin, 'cause I wanted mine to be fancy, but I think you could use anything as long as you have a waterproof layer somewhere.  I found some thin plastic (that you would use to line a tablecloth) for $2.99/yd.  It was 60" wide, so I only had to buy half a yard and I can make 3!

I have especially cute models, right?

Oh, Drew finally lost his top front tooth!
