Faye's sweater

I finished my very first knit sweater! Supposedly I'm still supposed to block it, but who wants to mess around with that?  Maybe another day I'll try it and see how that works.

It is Jane's Oatmeal Pullover by Jane Richmond. A very simple pullover with 3/4 sleeves, it was a great beginner project, although my gauge is way off.  I initially started making the sweater for myself, but as you can see it is very small. But it was perfectly sized for a 7 year old, so I didn't have to scrap the project and start over. I did read comments about the pattern and the gauge is a problem for other knitters as well, so it is not my lack of knitting skills that is the problem here, well, at least for the most part.

Off to start my next project...

T.J. Maxx

I was working on stuff around the house all day yesterday and today woke up feeling completely exhausted. I decided to take it easy this morning while all the kids were at school. With Andy in Chicago, our house up for sale(trying to keep it clean is impossible), and trying to decide what neighborhood to move to in Chicago, I haven't had much free time. None, really.

I spent my morning looking at clearance Christmas books at Barnes and Noble, then looking at junk at T.J. Maxx. Not a very productive day, but it was about all I could handle. I love T.J. Maxx, you just never know what you're going to find. Today I found some clearance Lego's, the Prince of Persia Disney sets. There were two sets, the large set marked down to $20 from $50, and a smaller set marked down to $10. Since everyone just got Lego's for Christmas I left them on the shelf.

Then I saw a moka pot. I've been wanting to try one for awhile. In fact, I think I almost bought this very moka pot the last time I was there. Last time it was $9, but today it was marked down to $5. That's about the price of a fancy coffee from Starbucks, so I figured I'd take the chance. It didn't come with any instructions, but I did a quick search and it looks simple enough.

I can't wait to try it!  The only problem is I don't have any suitable coffee in the house.  I think the only thing I have here is Folgers, and that just won't work.  Any of you coffee drinkers have any tips or coffee suggestions?

Strange weather

I don't know what is going on in central Illinois this winter, but I am loving this weather. It has been in the upper 50's the past two days, and the high for today is 58 degrees! The kids have played outside for hours at a time each day. The shoes are muddy, the coats and hats and gloves(when they've needed them) are a muddy mess, but they have had the best time, and I've had a few hours to get things done (washing the muddy things from the previous day).

Yesterday after school I told the kids they were playing outside, and Drew told me, "But Mom, its too hot!  I guess I'll have to have a Popsicle." Sure.

I managed to get a little yard work done the past few days as well. I've never been outside in January raking leaves and cleaning up the yard. The stores are not prepared for January clean up either, because I could not find any yard waste bags, and I checked 3 places. I also noticed that my irises are starting to come up, which I think could be a problem for them in the future. I can't ever remember such a strange January.
