Another one..

Here is another video I took outside today. Alex really wanted to get over to the sandbox and tried a few times before he finally made it. I thought I'd see what he did with the sand. He first kept feeling the sand, and I was just waiting for him to put it in his mouth, which of course he did at the very end. He had a huge mouthful so I stopped the camera and had to run in the house and wash him off. Yuck!!

The voice is Drew telling me to look in the garage at all the footprints they are making. Our garage is very old and when it rains we get a little water on one side. The kids were in there running through the water and making footprints all over. What a fun afternoon!

Alex is on the move...

Andy and I bought this toy for Alex a few weeks ago. He didn't show much interest in it at first, but we showed it to him again yesterday and he LOVED it. He can get all around the house now - walking - and he thinks he is big stuff! He has been getting into a few things he shouldn't however. Mostly the plants, but also the dog's food and water and the kids art supplies. We may have to move these items to a higher location! The video is not the best, but it was his first time walking around and Andy happened to grab the camera.

He's on the move!

Alex is finally on the move - crawling that is. I wasn't sure if he would crawl or walk first as he wants to stand all the time. He spends the majority of his time hanging on to the couch or coffee table, or the screen door in the kitchen, so I figured he'd never learn crawl. He's been moving for about a week now, and he is definitely improving and getting where he wants to be quicker. He has a lot of exploring to do!

He doesn't really get up on his hands and knees yet, but pushes himself around on his belly. Faye and Drew don't really know what to think. Sometimes they are excited about it, but other times they are very frustrated. Alex wants to play with their toys and get into their things. They were trying to have a tea party a couple days ago, and Alex kept crawling over and disrupting things. Yesterday they were trying to build a really tall tower and he kept grabbing their blocks and knocking it over.

Hopefully he won't walk for awhile. I'm just not ready for that. He's our last baby and he is growing up much too fast!!

It's a sign!

Alex has learned his first sign language sign... 'more'. I've been working on it with him at each meal for awhile now. I thought he was starting to pick it up, but I wasn't sure at first. All babies adapt the signs a little from the original version so it is hard to tell what they are doing sometimes. Then I gave him a graham cracker at snack time a few days ago. He gobbled it down, and I asked him if he wanted more. Sure enough he did the sign for 'more' and ate another. He kept signing and it was so cute I couldn't tell him no, so he had at least 6 graham crackers, maybe more. I lost count after the first few. We've been working on 'all done' as well, and I think he is starting to pick that one up too. I think I will try adding a few more in the next few weeks.

We started sign language with Faye and Drew just after they turned 1 year old. They really wanted to tell us stuff but couldn't and were fussy, and this really really helped. Hopefully it will help with Alex too. He seemed really excited that he could tell us he wanted 'more'!

My frugal husband....

We finally decided it was time to buy some new fence panels. Everytime Velvet, our dog, would jump up on the fence, a piece would break or fall off. I even saw a squirrel break off part of our fence. OK, time for a new one.

We went out this morning in search of a new fence. Andy was driving, and he was headed the wrong way. So I ask him, "Where are we going?" He tells me the post office. Ok, what for I ask him. And he says, "to get a change of address form." What? I thought we were putting up a new fence, now we're moving? I was a tad confused to say the least. Apparently, there is a 10% off coupon for Lowe's in the change of address packets at the post office. My frugal husband... he always surprises me in some way, sometimes good and sometimes bad, but I love him just the same. If there is some way for him to save us money, he will find it for sure.

We spent the morning going store to store, looking for the best deal. Home Depot had their panels a couple dollars cheaper, but then again we had the 10% off coupon for Lowe's. So back to Lowe's we went and rented a truck (there was no way they were going to fit in our van). I told them we had seen the same panels at Home Depot for less, so they price matched and gave us another 10% off. So we ended up with a great deal!!

We got almost all of the new ones up, but we still have to make two gates and put one more panel up. Those things are heavy!! It looked really easy when the guys at Lowe's were loading them in the truck. We brought them home and wow - it was hard work!! The weather was a little rainy, but hopefully it will cooperate today and we'll get it finished!

A beautiful day!

It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed it! It had to be near 70 degrees and sunny. The kids and I spent most of the day outside, playing and cleaning up our yard. The kids helped me pick up yard waste this morning - we ended up with two bags full and there is much more to be done.

Alex enjoyed being outside - although he thinks he should eat everything of course. We had a hard time keeping everything out of his mouth, but I think we kept the dirt/stick eating minimal. The kids were good helpers with this, and will run over and tell him, "no, no, don't eat that", which is exactly what I say to him.

We went to the park when Andy got home from work. Alex seemed to enjoy the swing for the first time. Faye and Drew had so much fun swinging and going down the slides. It is so great to get out of the house with the kids. We're really looking forward to some nice spring weather!!

I finally bought the game Uno for the kids a few days ago. I've been meaning to get this game for a long time. Even back when I worked at Horizon Hobby Jon and Josh were always wanting to play Uno when we worked on Saturday mornings (yes, we were bored to death waiting for the phone to ring some days).

I ended up buying the My First Uno game for the kids. It doesn't have the draw 4 or reverse cards, but it does have Wild and Draw 2. Once the kids learned how to play, they loved it. We played the other night with Andy, and it was the most fun I've ever had playing Uno. The kids were out to get Andy. Andy had one card left, and I explained to Drew that he could play his Wild card and change the color so Andy wouldn't win, and he just giggled with delight and played his Wild. Of course Andy had kept a Wild in his hand and still won the game, but the kids wanted to try again and again to beat him. Any time they would play a Draw 2 or Wild, they would giggle hysterically. I really wish we had the video camera rolling for this. It was something to see!!

Drew is a bit of a cheater, so we really have to watch him, especially when dealing the cards. The kids pick up and look at each card as they are dealing them, and we've told them over and over that is not the right thing to do. If we are not paying attention and Drew is dealing, he looks at the cards and if it is a good one (wild/draw 2), it somehow makes it into his hand.

Just an update...

Thanks to everybody who has been concerned about me and my broken foot! I had a CT scan on Thursday afternoon. The doctor's office called me on Friday afternoon to let me know I have a calcaneal(heel) fracture. They are the most common types of broken foot bones I guess, although they can also be the most difficult to diagnose and treat. I luckily have a break in a good spot - not that any break is good - but from what I've read and heard, it could have been much worse. I will have to wear the aircast for 4 more weeks till my next checkup on March 25th. It is feeling much better and only gets a little achy at times.

A little bunny... and clean teeth!

I love this picture! Andy, Alex and I went to Schnucks to do a little shopping on Saturday. I saw these in the 'junk' aisle as I call it, put them on Alex, and I knew I had to have them. He loved them too! He was just all smiley and loving it and wore them out of the store. Andy was not too impressed and said they were too girly for his little guy, but he can think what he wants. Now I just have to find a cute little bunny costume for him as well!! Or maybe some little bunny PJ's...

Faye and Drew had their dentist appointments this morning. I scheduled them 6 months ago after their last checkup, and I made them for 8am and 8:30 am. I have to say it sounded better at the time than it did this morning! They made it there on time, but I do have to say that was only because of Andy! He luckily can get up and get going in the morning, unlike me. The kids have clean teeth and new toothbrushes, Chick Hicks (from Cars) and Cinderella!

Alex likes to nap in his swing. I love how he holds his hands while he sleeps - it is just too cute! We had to move the swing downstairs so I didn't have to carry him up the stairs. What a pain it is to break your foot!
