Easter Treats

Here is our bunny cake for Easter tomorrow. Faye and Alex helped decorate it while Drew and Andy were at baseball practice today. Its a super easy cake to make with little kids, and I think it's cute too.

We made the same cake 3 years ago!! Look how little they were!

We also decorated some egg shaped cakes I made. I try to find something for the kids to decorate each year since we don't do the traditional egg dyeing.  There were some interesting ideas...but as I told the kids, "you make it you eat it", so think about it before you decorate it.

We were in Omaha, Nebraska last weekend to celebrate my mom's 6oth birthday. Happy Birthday Mom!!

It was a very short trip out there and back, but the kids had a great time. We went swimming and mini golfing, and had some great food and cupcakes. As we were leaving on Sunday Alex very seriously asked me, "Mom, can we bring Grandma home with us?"  Aww...Very sweet stuff!

Never Ending Winter

We woke up to more snow on Wednesday morning, and after having a 50 degree day on Monday I was not thrilled with the idea of more snow. The forecasts for Wednesday were all over the place, with snow accumulation expected anywhere from 4 to over 10 inches!  I think we probably ended up with around 5 or 6 inches, but as you can see it was very heavy snow with maybe some ice in there too. School was canceled due to power outages...I was ready to cry. Its not that I don't like my kids, and I love having a day off to do nothing, but it is getting old. Every week except one this year I've either had a kid home sick or a snow day, and some weeks, like this one, both! Please go away winter and bring me some warm weather and sunshine!!

The weather has been cold and snowy, and Andy gave me his cold (thanks so much), so I've been indoors for way too much this winter. I've been knitting (and painting our walls and ceilings) like crazy.  Ravelry had a competition for the duration of the Olympics called Ravellenics, where you can enter different events and win medals. I have a cousin who is having a baby girl later this year, so I decided to try and make some baby things: booties, a hat & socks. Knitting for babies is so much fun and it is so quick too! I love these baby booties, although I didn't use a traditional baby color. This pattern called for a DK yarn and this was the only DK I had at home.

I also made this shawl - one of my favorites!

Alex requested a Pokemon ball, so I crocheted up a few of these too!

I'm so ready for some warmer weather! Unfortunately, if the forecast is correct, I will have a few more weeks of knitting and painting.

More Snow

It snowed most of the day today, although I don't think we got more than 2 or 3 inches. The kids went outside to play, but I chose to stay inside. I actually took most of the pictures through our (not very clean) windows, although I did open the door once. I'm really sick of the snow and cold this year, so I avoid going outside as much as possible.  We had some gigantic icicles outside our kitchen window that the kids had been eyeing, so they were thrilled it was warm enough to finally get outside and get them!

We have been getting lots of snow here in the Chicago area, with more expected(could be 4-8 more inches) in the next couple days. I ventured out for just a little while Saturday morning, to take a few pictures and help shovel the driveway. Oh, I really don't like having such a long driveway in the winter. It snowed several more inches in the afternoon on Saturday - so I shoveled the driveway again! I don't think we'll see the ground for a very long time.

Music Concert

The 3rd grade had a music concert last night. Since the kids were dressed up I thought I'd get a few nice pictures. Yeah right. My kids NEVER cooperate with pictures. Either they mess around or they refuse to smile.

At the concert the kids showed us what they are learning in music, and they each played us a song they learned on the xylophone.
